This beautiful wood saddle was designed for the small horses of the Mongolian Steppe.  Mongol horsemen customarily said an incantation over their saddle before setting out.  This tradition was begun by Genghis Khan himself. 

Originally the saddle was brightly painted - traces of red paint remain, giving this piece a rich patina. Ornate flowers have been hand carved into the front of this gorgeous piece and the wood of the seat is beautifully worn.

This saddle dates to the early 1900s.
