This beautiful wood saddle was designed for the small horses of the Mongolian Steppe.  Mongol horsemen customarily said an incantation over their saddle before setting out.  This tradition was begun by Genghis Khan himself. 

Originally the saddle was brightly painted. The paint has worn off from years of use and the lovely soft gray of the wood gives this saddle an understated elegance.

Dates to the mid 1900s.
