This is an exceptional example of a brass ingot used in Nigeria.
When large amounts of metal currency were amassed by a family or village, they would occasionally have it melted down by the local blacksmith and stored in the form of this ingot. The ingot itself could then be used for trade, or reconfigured at a later time into new forms. A beautiful example of ancient currency!
