Ceremonial Hoe Currency 1

Ceremonial Hoe Currency 1
Nigeria, Cameroon approx. 10" high by 6" wide
Depending on your frame of reference, these shapes are evocative of manta rays, bats or farming tools. This is a very old form that was actually an important type of currency, traded in Nigeria and Cameroon. Traditionally used as a bridewealth - given by the groom to a bride's family during the wedding ceremony, there is a mottled patina that shows its age.
