Doing Well by Doing Good

So many good causes. So many issues that deserve our attention. Our only hope to sort through the labyrinth of charities was to adapt a spiral philosophy of responsibility. To us, that means starting here, at the center of the spiral in our own shop.

Our beautiful Gabbeh rugs are made by a tribe of nomads. That begs the question, how do the nomads fare? How do they benefit from the production of these rugs? It wasn't enough to hear the reassurances of the importers. We packed up, got an interpreter and went to the source, the Zagros Mountains in Southwestern Iran. We can happily report, the income from the rugs has empowered the women (the creative force behind the rugs).

The industry has helped to advance education, fund alternative heating sources and most importantly, has allowed these proud people to continue their traditional nomadic way of life. Incidentally, Persian sheep enjoy a life their American cousins would envy!

With our time and our money, we support the national and international causes that resonate in our hearts. We are particularly concerned with providing essential life needs that we often take for granted. Food, clean water, and basic medical care in developing countries, and in our own country. We also remember our furry, feathered and finned friends by volunteering and donating to organizations that advocate for the environment and for those species lower on the evolutionary ladder.

In the end, Archeo is not just representative of our staff of three but also of each of our loyal clients. We invite you to share with us those causes that are dear to you.

Riding the spiral outward, we are actively engaged in our island-community. As a collective neighborhood-family, we have dealt with hurricanes, fires, medical bills, and homeless animals. We have volunteered, donated, encouraged and cheered as we helped other businesses and individuals work their way through adversity. We are privileged and proud to be part of the bigger picture.
